At Little Forest Animals, our dollhouse residents were created with that simple idea in mind. Our houses may begin with architecture - tiny staircases, opening windows, miniature kitchens and carefully furnished rooms - but their stories truly begin when a family moves in.

Meet the Bellevue Family
The Bellevue Family brings a softer, whimsical character to the Little Forest Animals world.
A family of five, every Bellevue is handcrafted and dressed by hand in 100% organic cotton, with individual everyday clothing and matching pyjama sets. The family arrives together in its own organic rattan house-shaped basket, ready to become part of a child's miniature world.
Mother, father, two daughters and a son make up the family, with each character measuring approximately 13-15 cm.
But their purpose is not simply to fill the rooms.
Place one Bellevue in a kitchen and breakfast can begin. Put another beside a window and suddenly there is somewhere to go, someone to wait for, or a story happening outside.
Move the family upstairs at the end of the day and the same animal doll house becomes an entirely different scene.
That ability to transform a room through storytelling is precisely why we wanted our dollhouse animals to feel like characters rather than decorations.

Every miniature world needs more than one story.
The Thompson Family offers another cast of characters to inhabit Little Forest Animals houses, giving children the freedom to create different households, relationships and adventures.
Like the Bellevue Family, the Thompsons are designed as a family of five handcrafted dolls measuring approximately 13-15 cm. They can become the residents of some of our largest homes, including the House of New York.
Perhaps today the Thompsons are having breakfast together. Tomorrow, someone may be moving house. On another afternoon, the Bellevue Family might arrive for dinner.
There is no prescribed story. And that is exactly the point.

From Architecture to Storytelling
Little Forest Animals began with architecture.
Our original idea was to create dollhouses that could introduce children to the beauty of architectural design while still leaving enough space for their own imagination. Our houses draw inspiration from cities and places around the world, from Paris and London to New York and Monaco.
But architecture creates the setting. Characters create the story.
Consider the House of Paris. Its four storeys and seven rooms create the physical world, while its fully furnished interiors provide the details. Add the Bellevue Family and suddenly the house has residents - and the child decides what happens next.
The same transformation happens in the six-storey House of New York when the Thompson Family moves in. Eleven rooms no longer represent eleven miniature interiors. They become eleven possible scenes.
That is why we think of our houses, furniture and families as parts of one world rather than separate toys.

Why We Chose Hand-Sewn Animal Families
There is something inherently warm about an animal character made from fabric.
Rather than creating rigid miniature figures, we wanted the residents of our houses to have a softer presence - something that could belong inside a beautifully detailed dollhouse but could also become a character a child carries from one story to another.
The Bellevue Family, for example, is hand-sewn from 100% organic cotton, and every member comes with both a signature outfit and pyjamas. Small variations created through handcrafting are part of their character rather than something we try to remove.
Their house-shaped organic rattan basket also gives the family a home beyond the dollhouse itself.
It is this combination of miniature architecture and tactile characters that defines the world we wanted to create.
Animal Characters and Imaginative Play
Why animals?
Animal characters leave room for interpretation.
They can have homes, friendships, routines and adventures without asking a child to reproduce the real world exactly as it is.
A rabbit can run a Parisian pâtisserie. A bear family can live in a New York townhouse. A goat can decide that the roof of a Dutch barn is a much better place to spend the afternoon.
Through this kind of anthropomorphic play, children can invent personalities, emotions, relationships and everyday situations for their characters.
Rather than telling children what the story should be, the miniature world gives them somewhere for their own story to happen.

One of our favourite things about a dollhouse with animal families is that nothing needs to remain where it began.
The Bellevue Family might live in Paris today and visit Rome tomorrow. The Thompson Family might occupy the House of New York, while another adventure takes place in London.
Furniture can move. Characters can visit. Rooms can change purpose. And the story can begin again every morning.
